There will be no "war" between man and machine (the oft-spouted inevitability cited as the reason why research into AI should be disregarded) I think the Artificial Intelligence breakthrough will take humanity in a totally different direction.
With all the WiFi technology coming out, beginning to rely more and more on even the most subtle of energy patterns (there's now a Wifi recharger for your cell phone; within a few feet of the charger, it "absorbs" broadcasted power) How long before brainwaves finally become just another bit of information in a totally Wifi Culture?
What happens if consciousness is broken down to the point it can be made using only a few score characters and a few million lines of code? (AI introduction)
I can see a human and an AI, in this totally wireless culture, combining. Or not so much combining. I don't see it being a single event, just a blurring of distinction...until there's no difference. Less than no difference, really. The human consciousness and the synthetic consciousness play off each other until 1+1=2. Something else?
.."what will it be like" this idea that jumped out of my head is talking about the next stage of evolution for the human race
And beyond? What will happen when machine and man evolve into a greater entity on an individual level, and then the individuals begin interacting with each other on a more and more intimate level? What when "intimate" evolves past the concept of "self"? What will we become when all concept of individuality is dissolved? And there is only one mind. All concept of individuality has dissolved in the face of pure singularity..when there are no more humans or machines (they've evolved together, creator and creation have become something more) and what's there instead consolidates into a single network-wide entity.....Microcosm to Macrocosm...what's there evolves to become god...then evolves WITH god....to become something else....something greater...
